Technology Trends in Telecommunications for 2024

Around: 2 min. read

Telecommunications is one of the most rapidly developing branches of technology. The horizon of opportunities is constantly growing and chagning, and with it – customer demands. Let us take a closer look at some of the most prominent rising telecommunications trends to look out for in 2024.

Telecom innovations in 2024

In the upcoming year, generative artificial intelligence (genAI) will continue to be intensively developed and implemented in network operations for self-management, optimization, and service assurance purposes. These solutions will be approached with more respect for the identified issues regarding privacy, ethics, and data security, resulting in not only more optimal infrastructure but also increased customer experience and a shift from traditional graphical user interfaces towards natural language interactions. AI-powered tools are not all that 2024 holds in stock for telecom, though. Some of the other innovations that are expected to redefine connectivity are the creation of all-photonics and non-terrestrial networks, which will allow faster and more streamlined data transfer.
As the industry strives to achieve optimal results, many companies will seek to reduce their carbon footprint and cooperate with other industries. New GSMA standards for eSIMs and iSIMs mean cutting a large chunk of logicstics issues in the Internet of Things (IoT) domain, while sharing infrastructure between telecom operators will ensure lower large-scale energy consumption. Telcos are also slowly expanding their area of operations, sharing solutions and aggregating services typically associated with the utilities sector, hence evolving into techcos.

The future of the telecom industry

All of these exciting trends lay the groundwork for countless innovations and solutions that are yet to be developed. The industry will be shaped by how generative artificial intelligence solutions, all-photonics networks, non-terrestrial networks, and more develop in the years to come. If you want to take the opportunity to become the pioneer of telecom innovations, you should definitely consider taking a step towards one of these trends.
