On January 20, the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków and Comarch signed a cooperation agreement intended to influence the fields of education and science, and to improve the quality of services provided by the company, particularly in the modern information technology sector.

Professor Jerzy Lis, AGH University Rector, said: “The agreement on cooperation with Comarch is an extension of the exchange of experience that has been taking place between AGH and the company since the latter’s establishment by the late Professor Janusz Filipiak of AGH. The long-standing activities of our university in cooperation with Comarch in the field of ICT are proof that the combination of academic knowledge and business experience results in innovative solutions and a real impact on the development of modern technologies. We look forward to continuing these activities and further cooperation on improving IT infrastructure, which is extremely important today.”

Marcin Kaleta, Vice-President and Director of the Telecommunications Division at Comarch added: “The signing of the cooperation agreement with AGH is a special moment for us and a return to our roots more than 30 years since Comarch was established in room 415 at the university. We look forward with excitement to combining academic knowledge with our business experience, which will enable us to implement projects together, including those on an international level. This exchange of experience is not only an opportunity for the development of AGH and Comarch, but also a chance to discuss the needs of today's IT infrastructure. We are eager to respond to these needs by incorporating innovative ideas and solutions for telecommunications.”

Within the framework of the agreement, the university and the company assume, among other things:

  • Scientific and research cooperation
  • Strengthening the potential of entrepreneurship and innovation
  • Implementation of joint projects in the field of educational, scientific and entrepreneurial activities
  • Educating and improving the skills of AGH staff and Comarch employees
  • Popularization of issues related to modern information technology

On the part of AGH, the agreement will be implemented by the Telecommunications Institute of the Faculty of Computer Science, Electronics and Telecommunications. The unit will be primarily responsible for supporting activities aimed at building national and international cooperation in the areas of education, science, entrepreneurship and innovation, including in particular the modern information technology sector.

“We are committed to nurturing the research and educational potential developed over the past years, which was born out of our fruitful cooperation to date. We will therefore attempt, among other things, to raise funds for the intensification of activities that strengthen entrepreneurship and allow both sides of the agreement to thrive,” said Professor Jerzy Domżał, Director of the Telecommunications Institute.
