A project between 450connect, sole operator of the 450MHz frequencies in Germany, and Comarch has been shortlisted in the Leading Lights Awards 2025. This award program recognizes telecommunications companies for their achievements and initiatives that drive innovation in telecom services, strategies, and technology.

The Leading Lights Awards are organized annually by Light Reading, honoring companies and individuals at the forefront of innovation in the rapidly evolving global communications industry. The program not only recognizes technical and market excellence but also tracks the significant technology decisions and customer successes shaping the industry. This year’s Leading Lights Awards feature 20 categories highlighting a comprehensive range of achievements within the telecommunications sector.

450connect and Comarch are finalists in the "Outstanding Use Case: Mobile Network Deployment" category, which is awarded to companies demonstrating an outstanding example of a successful RAN, mobile core, backhaul, or other mobile network deployment for a service provider network.

The shortlisted initiative is titled "450connect & Comarch – Building a Future-Proof 450 MHz Frequency-Based Critical Infrastructure in Germany." In this project, Comarch partnered with 450connect, a joint venture formed by various energy utilities headquartered in Cologne, Germany. The company is actively developing and will operate a Germany-wide, highly robust, and resilient LTE450 radio network. This critical network will serve vital critical infrastructure operators, utilizing the 450 MHz spectrum, which was exclusively allocated to 450connect by the German Federal Network Agency for two decades, starting in July 2021.

As part of the project, Comarch deployed a customized core IT system based on the Comarch BSS/OSS platform to manage this critical infrastructure. It integrates advanced functionalities in IoT, network monitoring, billing, and service assurance, and is designed with high system scalability to support critical voice and data applications. By providing integrated IoT and assurance tools, automated workflows, and unmatched scalability, the solution ensures long-term operational reliability.

This entry stands out due to the specific critical objectives it addresses, primarily by delivering a fail-safe LTE450 radio network that supports energy utilities and other critical infrastructure operators in maintaining secure communication. The highly scalable and flexible architecture of the IT platform underscores its ability to evolve with future demands, ensuring its relevance not only to Germany’s market but also to other international markets facing similar challenges.

The winners of the Leading Lights Awards will be officially announced on September 10, 2025.
